Congratulations on the new addition to your family!!

Puppies and kittens are super cute, but it is important to make sure you follow the necessary steps to ensure they grow up to be happy and healthy members of your family. Below is a general guideline, but depending on the pet - the doctor may personalize it to fit your furry babies specific needs.
Top Reasons To Visit Your Vet With A New Puppy
Top Reasons To Visit Your Vet with a new kitten

Puppies:
  • First round of vaccines are given at about 6-8 weeks of age. This usually includes the DHPP vaccine and the Bordetella vaccine.
  • Your pet then returns in 3-4 weeks for a booster DHPP vaccine (and again in another 3-4 weeks after the second visit for the final booster).
  • The Rabies vaccine is given at about 16 weeks of age
  • The Lyme/Lepto and Flu vaccines are recommended in our area, but together with our doctor's, we can decide if they are necessary for your pet and the best time to start them.
  • Your pet should also have a fecal test performed to make sure there are no intestinal parasites present.
  • Monthly Heartworm and Flea/Tick prevention should be given - based on pets weight.
Kittens:
  • First round of vaccines are given at about 6-8 weeks of age. This usually includes the FVRCP vaccine.
  • Your pet then returns in 3-4 weeks for a booster FVRCP vaccine (and again in another 3-4 weeks after the second visit for the final booster).
  • The Rabies vaccine is given at about 16 weeks of age
  • Your pet should also have a fecal test performed to make sure there are no intestinal parasites present.
  • We recommend that your kitten remain indoors - for their safety and overall health. However, if your cat will be outdoors, then we also recommend the Feline Leukemia Vaccine. This is something that you can discuss further with out doctor's.
  • Even if your pet does not go outside, Flea/Tick Prevention is highly recommended given that fleas can come into your home on shoes/clothing.
